It is a finalist with its AI-powered security tool, and two projects in Melbourne receive high marks for their sustainability
This month, Acciona Australia received two important awards for technological innovation and sustainability in the infrastructure sector.
On the one hand, its Artificial Intelligence tool for the preparation of Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) was selected as a finalist in the national workplace health and safety innovation awards (WHS Innovation Awards). On the other hand, the Glen Huntly and Parkdale projects in Melbourne obtained the highest sustainability ratings from independent bodies.
The AI tool, developed in-house by Acciona, has drastically reduced the time needed to complete SWMS documentation, from three hours to just a few minutes. The system also ensures greater accuracy, consistency and regulatory compliance. It is currently used on 17 of the company's construction sites with more than 350 active users.
Furthermore, the Glen Huntly and Parkdale projects were recognised for their exemplary environmental practices. At Parkdale, plans were made to plant 100,000 trees, shrubs and native plant species with the aim of restoring the natural environment and improving the quality of urban life. These initiatives reflect ACCIONA's commitment to ecological regeneration and landscape integration in its urban developments.
The Glen Huntly project, meanwhile, has received an As-Built “Leading” rating with a score of 82, the highest category awarded by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council (ISC). Key initiatives include the installation of 60 kW solar panels and a 20 kL rainwater tank at the new station, which contributed to a 44% improvement in operational energy efficiency. The project also achieved a 5-star Green Star certification for Australian Excellence.
