It carries out a major upgrade to the Prospect water filtration plant, which supplies almost 85% of Sydney's homes
Our patron, Acciona, recently announced significant progress on the Prospect Pretreatment Plant project, part of an ambitious upgrade to Sydney, Australia’s water supply.
First, Acciona announced that, in collaboration with SUEZ, it has completed the installation of the domed cover on the first of two thickened sludge tanks at the plant. These two tanks will provide a combined storage capacity of 8,000 cubic meters. This will allow the plant to store up to five days’ worth of sludge during periods when landfills are inaccessible, ensuring continuous operation even under challenging conditions.
Furthermore, the company celebrated the completion of the connection between the new pretreatment plant and the existing Prospect Water Filtration Plant, which supplies drinking water to approximately 85% of Sydney’s population. The work involved carefully cutting into a critical, active main water pipe and installing a new connection, all while ensuring an uninterrupted water supply to the community.
The Prospect pretreatment plant will process up to 625 million liters of raw water per day. It incorporates advanced clarification systems, chemical dosing facilities, and waste management processes to efficiently handle waste. This project is a key component of Sydney Water’s strategy to maintain water quality during extreme weather events such as storms, droughts, and bushfires.
